In this day and age when so little is left to the imagination it’s strangely satisfying to stumble across something so mysteriously obscure. WU LYF from Machester in northern England are exactly that; a four piece band who have turned down record label offers and press interviews in equal measure to let the growing hype consume itself. They’ve gone about their project in such an intelligent manner, I wouldn’t be surprised if these kids were marketing majors!
Their debut album, Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, was recorded in a disused church and sounds phenomenal. It’s completely unhinged, experimental, grungy pop music sang in a gravely voice with such raw emotion. Be sure to also listen to both L Y F and Heavy Pop as they’re equally excellent. The video DIRT is featured above and it’s a chaotic amalgamation of protest videos and bold text.
Come July 13, keep your eyes out for the band members in white balaclavas!
